It’s rare if I’m compelled to talk about exercise on my blog. But, recently I’ve begun a strength training regiment that will allow me to get back to, what I consider to be, peak state. I miss working out like I did when I was a martial arts tournament competitor, so I decided to break out the old boxing gloves, the resistance bands and rehash my old eating regiment.

Recently, though, I’ve noticed that my four year old daughter has taken an interest in working out with me. Also, my 6 month old son really seems to be active in his walker while I’m working out… so I realized there has to be a way to include them both in this… without actually getting them into the extensive strength training aspects of things.

So, since I’m more of a hard core workout guy and used to working out alone, I really didn’t know how to get started integrating the positive parenting part of things with my exercise routine. Then, a few friends/students of mine… all dads and health nuts said, “Hey Bob, tell us what you think of this Baby Fat Burner.”

Talk about serendipity!

Now… don’t think that I have some affiliate link to this thing or something, because I don’t. Here’s what I’ll tell you. My wife and I sat down and red this e-book and began to implement the strategies with our kids. YES… even with my 6 month old son.

Although it’s heightened my regular exercise routine (and my wife is loving the fit shape she is getting into) I found it to be more than just some exercise program. You see, it’s tough for me, being so busy all the time, to find the strength and time in my day to play and run and have fun with my kids. I chose to work at home to spend time with my family and sometimes my students get more of my time than they do.

Is Internet Marketing Phenom Bob Yeager going MLM?

There are rumors flying around that I am going the way of network marketing and MLM. Are they true? Well, yes and no. although I cannot yet reveal which company I am working closely with, I can say that I am in conversation to blast into the network marketing arena. Let me set the stage.

A few years back, as you may know my story, I came online to learn information on creating a successful business on the internet. Years ago, just after I had started to mentor with Leslie, I began writing a series of letters to my daughter. Keep in mind that she was only a year old at the time, but I figured I would some day place them into a nice book that I could give her when she turns eighteen years old. A right of passage of sorts. Well, my wife just said to me today… “Why wait to give those letters to someone.”

So, from time to time, I’ll be posting some of those letters here and in the near future I am going to be releasing a hardbound book of these letters, simply called:

“The Samantha Letters.”

Here’s the first in that series:

The Samantha Letters: #1

Dear Sammy,

It may seem odd that I decided to write these letters and publish them to the internet. who knows, by the time you are old enough to read them, the internet may no longer exist; that’s an interesting thought:)

I’ve been back and forth on what I’d write to you, but I figured I would commit to writing one of these letters every few days and, perhaps, someday they would end up being placed into a book. You’re going to find throughout this letter, that your daddy is not a good writer. I’m just a guy that likes to get his thoughts out and since we tend to allow our thoughts to fade away, there’s a good chance that this will be the best way to preserve my thoughts for you, instead of writing them on sheets of paper that could get lost or damaged over the years.

I think the best place for me to start is were we are right now and what I can see happening along the way. Your mother and I are struggling a little bit. As you probably know, daddy was sick for a very long time. There were times that I never thought I would be able to move forward or be here for you. Your mother knew this when we got married, but she chose to stick this thing out with me. I’ll tell ya, when she came along I feel like my life was saved. In the place of a cancer, an angel was sat next to me to enjoy this journey of life… instead of planning for an early end.

It was through meeting your mommy that I decided to push forward. You see, years ago when I was seventeen, everyone thought that I was going to be the biggest success story they had ever met. I was becoming that, but something always seemed a bit off. I was consistently getting involved in different business ventures and ways to make more money, but never seemed to be connected to what I was doing. When I was nineteen and developed cancer, I wasn’t sad or upset that I had to sell of my businesses, or even that I had to live in my truck for a couple of years. Actually, although it was difficult, living in my truck was one of the most freeing experiences of my life.

Imagine that you are able to wake up every morning to a different sunrise. You smell a different breeze every time you open your eyes. Imagine, if only for a moment, that your heart is racing because you don’t know if you are going to make it to your next stop. The fuel is running low and it will take for you to take up an odd job in a strange new land… not knowing if you will be welcome.

That’s where I was and that is where today’s lesson is going to take us.

I used to travel around the country, going from one doctor to the next, until one day I stopped visiting doctors and just started to enjoy life. It was pretty easy to start working in a new town. Although, physically, I couldn’t take on any manual labor jobs, there were two things that I was good at.

The first, as I’ll describe it, is compelling people to become more. I would have talks at small martial arts training studios where the classes consisted mainly of small children. It was empowering to see these micro-people conquering their fears and finding new ways to adapt and move forward with some of the most advanced, physical training that anyone could possibly endure. These kids never believed that anything was impossible. They had courage, they held themselves accountable for their own accomplishments, but most importantly; these kids ALWAYS held themselves accountable for the accomplishments of their class mates.

I’ve always said that the boy scouts have nothing on a good martial arts class. Sure, the scouts show you how to be a good humanitarian and survival techniques, but the martial arts for kids wasn’t riddled with commercialism and always seemed to stay true to the moral and phylisophical principles they wer built upon. These children also understood the magnificence their bodies and minds were truly capable of. The only limitations they ever faced, were those limitations they had placed upon themselves.

Getting back to the lesson. I learned that, being able to articulate these principles and teach them to others, especially small children, was a gift that no one could ever take away. So many people out there, who wish to have a taste of success, usually find it short lived. It’s usually due to the fact that, they are focused on “money success” instead of the “ME” success.

The “ME” success is this.

~ I am passionate and strong and there is no one person in this world who can relieve me of this passion and strength, unless that person is myself. Strength and passion can only be given up; not taken from you.

~ My phylosophies in life are not complex, rather they are fundamental and few and far in between. They are: Love, passion, determination, a burning desire and acting upon my life and myself, as if I am creating the greates human being for all of human kind to benefit from.

~ The value that I create for myself will directly affect others around me. The more I become more, the more I am capable of contributing to others. It is this one principle that will allow me to serve my purpose and achieve unlimited potential.

~Finally, when I want; I do. When I need, I have. When I desire, I take action. When I envision a goal… I stay the course. It is imperative, Sammy, that you grow to believe these principles and implement them into every day of your life, in everything you do and convey them through every word that you speak.

The second thing that I realized I was really good at, was selling things. I wasn’t ever what you would call a sales man, but I had always been able to market my thoughts and explain better ways of doing things. Take for example, cars. When your grandfather and I used to work on cars together, he was the skilled mechanic and I was the kid who knew how to use the tools… I just didn’t know what they were called.

There were many occasions when your pap would find a problem with a car and immediately get upset that he would have to purchase an expensive part, or would be in fear that he would have to take it to a mechanic and end up getting raped on the charges for the labor.

I would usually wait for him to walk away; he tended to do that just before he would come up with some solution, and then I would step back and look at the task at hand. For whatever reason, I’ve always been able to step back and look at a “problem” from the outside and see a way to work out a solution. Funny term, “work” out. It never seemed like work to me. The mistery of problem solving on any level had always intrigued me. For whatever reason, I was a natural at finding alternative solutions and I would always present them to my dad.

That brings us to the second part of the second thing I was always good at. Marketing. In every situation in your life, when you have to present information to someone, including your parents, in order to get someone to take action… there are skills in marketing that are natural in all of us. Really, so many people think that marketing is seperate from us all, when in reality… it is an inherent part of us.

The ability to convey one’s message to others in order to compel them to take action. It sounds like a phylisophical principle, when it is merely a great way to continuously create new opportunities.

Well, your grandfather was never the easiest guy to present new ideas to, or to ask for a favor. Let me give you an example. When your Aunt T and I were kids, we always wanted to go to our cousins’ houses over the summer. We were caretakers of cemetaries and we always knew that our summer vacations would be riddled with manual labor. Your Aunt T would always approach your grandma to have HER ask our dad if she could go to stay with our cousins.

My mother would ask our dad and his answer was almost instantly know. Your Aunt T spent a lot of time asking our dad for things, through our mom. What she didn’t realize was, her approach was all wrong. Why would you ask one person to convey your message for you? Our mother would spend a few seconds trying to talk our dad into something and when he said no, that would be the end of it.

Keep in mind, I was a bit younger than your aunt, but I was also more observant. Instead of asking our mother to ask our dad for permission, I’d go straight to the source. But I didn’t use the method of, “Could I please go to our cousins’ houses for the summer?” That wasn’t what my dad was looking for. He needed a compelling why and he needed to see that it wasn’t for pure selfishness. You see, although he never said so, when he had us working in the cemetary during the summer, he was teaching us many valuable lessons.

Besides learning how to keep your hands from blistering from pulling a rake or mowing a lawn, he would teach us the value of honesty, determination and putting 100% effort into everything that we would do. He’d always step back and look at our work and ask, “Do YOU think it’s done?” We could’ve said yes and that would’ve been fine with him, but we were always compelled to say, “NO” and continue to make our work better.

So when I’d ask dad if I could go away for the summer, here was my approach.

“Dad, I was just talking to Uncle Harvey on the phone and he said that Grandma’s farm is really in need of a lot of work. Also, Aunt Sherry and Aunt Linda’s farms are the same way. Well, Uncle Harvey, Eddy and Steven and me all figured if we all work together throughout the summer, we could have them in pretty good shape by the time autumn comes around. Is it ok if WE go and help out?”

Notice I was offering help and I asked if WE could go, instead of asking if I could go.

THAT, to your pap Samantha, was a compelling why, we were creating value for others and there was no selfish intent involved. Sure, your pap knew we would spend a good portion of our time playing and having fun, but he also knew that we would be helping others in our family at the same time.

You see, a lot of people think that I learned to coach or mentor others in success philosophies from the martial arts and that I learned to convey my message in marketing from some courses and books. Nope… no PHDs or university training on those fronts. It all came from your grandpap and now I pass these lessons on to you. I want you to practice conveying your message and focusing your intent on making yourself more valuable in order to create more value for others. If you could master these two lessons… you can create success and accomplish many great things, no matter where you are in your life.

I’ll write you more of these letters so you can have them to give to your kids, sweety.

Be all you can be, but it’s not always in the Army. I often see myself as somewhat contented with my life the way things are, but of course it’s hard to think of anything else when where are real issues to be discussed.

Still I aspire for something deeper and more meaningful.

So we’re all pelted with problems. Honestly it shouldn’t even bother or even hinder us to becoming all we ought to be. Aspirations as kids should continue to live within us, even though it would be short-lived or as long as we could hold on to the dream. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks… or can they?

1. What do I really want?

The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your life and so little time to even go about during the day.

Find something that you are good at can help realize that small step towards improvement. Diligence is the key to know that it is worth it.

2. Should I really change?

Today’s generation has taken another level of redefining ‘self’, or at least that’s what the kids are saying. Having an army of teenage nieces and nephews has taught me that there are far worse things that they could have had than acne or maybe even promiscuity. So how does that fit into your lifestyle?

If history has taught us one thing, it’s the life that we have gone through. Try to see if partying Seventies style wouldn’t appeal to the younger generation, but dancing is part of partying. Watch them applaud after showing them how to really dance than break their bones in break-dancing.

3. What’s the bright side in all of this?

With so much is happening around us there seem to be no room for even considering that light at the end of the tunnel. We can still see it as something positive without undergoing so much scrutiny. And if it’s a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride and see what makes the world go round!

4. Am I comfortable with what I’m doing?

There’s always the easy way and the right way when it comes to deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt and whatnot. It doesn’t take a genius to see yourself as someone unique, or else we’ll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.

5. Have I done enough for myself?

Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small amounts you’ll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine doing.

6. Am I happy at where I am today?

It’s an unfair question so let it be an answer! You love being a good and loving mom or dad to your kids, then take it up a notch! Your kids will love you forever. The same goes with everyday life!

7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?

So maybe I don’t have an answer to that, but that doesn’t mean I can’t try it, though. Whether you shape-up, change the way you wear your clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should always remember it will always be for your own benefit.

8. How much could I have?

I suppose in this case there is no such things on having things too much or too little, but it’s more on how badly you really need it. I’d like to have lots of money, no denying that, but the question is that how much are you willing to work for it?

9. What motivates me?

What motivates you?

It’s an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of the may be the hardest part. It’s not like you can’t have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that’s it. Just try it piece by piece.

10. What Really Makes You Tick?

So? What really makes you tick?

You can be just about anything you always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start that journey. Always remember, that self-improvement is not just about the physical or philosophical change you have to undergo, but it’s something that you really want.

How many times have you lost control of yourself when you’re angry? Did you do or said something which you regretted over time?

How many times have you lost control of yourself when you’re angry? Did you do or said something which you regretted over time?

I guess we all did. It’s normal, and afterall, we are just human beings.

Everyone of us faces problems with anger. The main difference between you and me is that, do you know how to gain control of your anger, instead of letting it control you.

It’s not easy to gain control of your anger, especially when you are provoked into such situations. Nevertheless, if you are facing with this situation next time, you can try out my 5 simple steps.

Step 1 : Identify what makes you upset

Start with identifying what upsets your feelings or emotions. Pull yourself aside from everything you are doing or the anger situation you are in, then take a deep breathe and clear your mind. Think, what brought you into this situation.

You need to know what is wrong in order to correct it. Right?

Step 2 : Use them as a stop signal

When you are done with Step 1, you’d probably already knew what made you angry. You might not have the complete clear idea of it, but it’s OK. At least you have “some” ideas.

Use these as stop signs for your anger. You’re upset because the little voices inside your head are telling yourself upsetting things. This in return causes a stir in your feelings, therefore resulting in anger.

Stop all these little voices from talking within yourself, and you’ll be able to think independantly and not being influenced by them and the situation.

Step 3 : Tell yourself positive things

It’s important to think positive. You can counteract your upsetting thoughts with framing your mind to have a positive self-message. Tell yourself something nice that will make you feel better.

For instance, “this anger feeling is only temporary and I don’t want to say or do something stupid which I will regret for my actions later.”

Put the brakes on your feelings. Tell yourself to slow down and take it easy.

Step 4 : Make yourself clear

Clarify the situation for yourself. Ask yourself, “What is really going on in this situation?”

You can then feel disappointed with the situation but not enraged at the people who are creating it.

Step 5 : Think of constructive goals

Try to set more realistic goals for yourself in regard to the problem situation that you are in.

Ask yourself, “What are the alternative solutions that I use to resolve this situation?”

Be specific as possible, and concrete.

“What can you do to change this situation?”

List out the constructive options that you have in mind in which to reach your goals.

Ask yourself, “What constructive actions can I take to reach my goals?”

Finally, choose a constructive option to reach your goal and act fast on it.

The 5 simple steps that I had just pointed out to you are exactly what I do whenever I face with anger situations. You can try them out when you face with such situations.

Everyone gets angry at times, but the important thing is, “What can you do to overcome this situation?”.

Gain control of your anger, rather than letting it control you.

Assuming the Responsibilities that come with Being a Coach

Who can forget the famous line of Ben Parker (Spiderman’s uncle)?  He said,

“With great power comes great responsibility.”

Society expects Spiderman – a comic book, TV and movie superhero with extraordinary powers – to be responsible for saving his town and the world from the forces of Evil.  And he never let us down. Despite the temptations of owning such powers, he uses his abilities only for the good of the people around him.

Being a coach has similar parallels.  They don’t have superhuman powers such as x-ray vision or flying through the air with magic “sticky ropes”.  But great coaches can have real power through their abilities to help others – and with it, the responsibility – to guide others towards success.  This is REAL power that can be used to help real people in THIS world.  Done well, coaches can help others turn around their lives.  Done wrong, and a coach could guide a client down the wrong path.

So, with this power to coach your clients towards manifesting their personal and/or business vision comes responsibilities.  Great coaches assume them all as part of the professional responsibility. This can include everything from making sure your client is moving in the right direction, getting them back on course when they are not, and developing and tracking their use of exercises to help them along the way.

There are a few things you can do to be a more responsible coach.  Just as important, these same skills can be imparted to your clients to help them lead more responsible, integrity-filled lives.

How to Bring out the more Responsible “You” in Yourself and your Client

#1 – Develop self-awareness.
Learn and know your own strengths and weaknesses to be able to view your behavior objectively.  Recognize your shortcomings, receive feedback, and make changes when necessary.  The more self-aware you become of all your aspects, the more you will know what kind of clients you can coach best and – just as important – those best referred to others.
Dr. Gerard Bell, business consultant and professor at the University of North Carolina in
Chapel Hill, advises us on how to expand our self-knowledge.  He said, “Study yourself closely and practice self-assessment techniques to learn how you behave, and the effects you have on others.  As others for their option, feedback, and suggestions to become a better coach.”
The lesson is simple: the more we grow, the more we can offer, and the more we can help others.

#2: Learn to Separate Responsibility from Worry
When we hear the word “responsibility”, we often think to ourselves, “Another task, another problem.”  However, responsibility is not about worrying over things give to us to work out.  Consider this story:

One night at the end of the second shift, the Head of Operations walked out of the plant he managed and passed a porter.  A porter he passed said, “Mr. Smith, I sure wish I had your pay.  But I wouldn’t want the worry that goes with it.”

Mr. Smith answered, “I give the best I can when I am here.  But I drop the worry when I leave so I can be 100% with my family when I’m at home.”

You, too, can learn to give your best to challenging work, but then “leave it at the door” when you’re off-hours.  Worrying accomplishes nothing except to eat away at us, and actually ends up making us less effective!  Don’t let worry taint your clarity of judgment and ability to take decisive action.  You can learn this as you grow.

Carrying the responsibility of coaching should not intimidate you.  It is the ability to help others that coaching is all about.  Embrace the responsibilities that come with it.

Nothing is gained by worrying about whether your clients achieve their goals or not.  Focus on supporting and inspiring them.  Be their partner in their growth.  Brainstorm with them when it is called for.  But ultimately, it is your client’s responsibility to assume responsibility for accomplishing their goals.  You merely help them see and achieve this state.

#3: Take Calculated Risks and Learn from Your Mistakes

Effective coaches have the courage to ask their clients to take risks when results and success are uncertain.  A willing ness to risk failure is a core attribute of all successful people.

As a coach you can help your clients work with risk and possible failure.  Help them learn to analyze their situation and options.  Work with them to list the pros and cons for each option, then assign each choice a risk factor rating from 1 to 5.  Next, have them determine the likelihood of each occurring.  This will help them quantify and manage the risk-taking process.
Also, lead them to a better paradigm regarding failure.  What is failure other than great feedback that our current course of action isn’t the right path?  Use this information for course correction.  Failure doesn’t happen until we give up.  If you don’t give up, then failure isn’t an option.

#4: Own and admit our mistakes
Our greatest lessons and growth come through our mistakes. Everyone makes them; it is part of life.  Help your client understand this, and they will be able to draw the necessary lessons and take corrective action.  If we do the “blame game”, we don’t even take the first step (ownership) in this process.

Not only does owning our mistakes and failures help us to be more truthful and powerful in our own lives.  Owning and assuming responsibility for them lets others see the integrity and virtue within us, and hence further gain their respect.
